Mekong: Strengthening statistical capacities to improve climate change management in the Mekong region

The project focuses on the following topics:

Updating on a territorial basis the indicators for measuring climate change, extreme events and disasters, environmental sustainability (with a focus on water statistics) and the urban environment, considering the SDGs and the SENDAI framework for disaster risk reduction.

Strengthening coordination with Ministries and Institutions producing environmental data.

Adoption/update of new information technologies for building statistical information systems and national statistical databases on the environment, climate change, extreme events and disasters and the urban environment.

Strengthening the quality of statistical data on environment

Improvement of the capability to digitally analyse and disseminate data to obtain more timely and accessible data.
The overall objective of this project is to contribute to the strengthening of the statistical system in Cambodia, Laos, and Vietnam to improve sustainable resource management, create resilient communities and territories and respond effectively to environmental risks and disasters, including by fostering South-South Cooperation.
The specific objective is to strengthen the statistical capacity of the National Statistical Institutes of Cambodia, Laos and Vietnam in the development, production, and dissemination of statistics on the environment, taking into account the international frameworks on SDGs, climate change, extreme events and disaster measures.
