Istat indicators for Sustainable Development Goals

The United Nations Statistics Division entrusted Istat, like other NSOs, with the task of coordinating the production of indicators for measuring sustainable development and monitoring its objectives.

Periodically, Istat presents an update of the set of statistical measures for monitoring 2030 Agenda Sustainable Development Goals in Italy.

Istat publishes yearly the Report on SDGs. The eighth edition of the Sustainable Development Goals Report is avalaible in Italian only.

Last update: 10 July 2025

In 2024 the UN-IAEG-SDGs framework underwent a Comprehensive Review, which was the impetus for launching an extensive revision process of the Istat-SDGs System, conducted, in collaboration with Sistan institutions participating in its feeding, with the aim of further improving the quality of data and metadata.

As a result of the revision, Istat-SDGs  statistical measures disseminated are 320 (of which 300 unique, i.e not repeated under different Goals) for 148 UN-IAEG-SDGs indicators. Compared to July 2024, in the last release 76 redundant or obsolete measures have been eliminated, replacing them with others based on new sources and/or estimation methodologies or matching new information needs, 36 new measures have been introduced and 221 have been updated.

The statistical measures are disseminated in four data files:

2004-2024

1995-2003

Data are complemented with the metadata of the disseminated statistical measures included into an xlsx file.

dashboard with data and charts is also available.
