Italian Statistics Olympics 2025
For the 2024/25 school year Istat and SIS organize the 15th edition of the Italian Statistics Olympics.
The Olympics are aimed to encourage students to approach statistical reasoning, to arouse their interest in data analysis and probability, to enable them to better understand the meaning of the quantitative information they receive every day.
The initiative is open to upper secondary schools students (classes 1-4).
Deadline for schools to register and enroll students individually has been postponed to 2 December 2024, by filling out the online form, as described in the Rules, and indicating their own contact person.

This year the individual test will be held over four days: from 13 to 16 January 2025, as already stated in the Rules. Should the number of students exceed a certain threshold, tests will continue until 17 January 2025.
Below is the schedule for the January individual tests:
– 13 January 2025 (schools in Piemonte, Valle d’Aosta, Liguria, Friuli-Venezia Giulia and Veneto);
– 14 January 2025 (schools in Lombardia, Trentino-Alto Adige and Emilia-Romagna);
– 15 January 2025 (schools in Toscana, Umbria, Marche, Lazio, Campania, Basilicata and Sardegna);
– 16 January 2025 (schools in Abruzzo, Molise, Puglia, Calabria and Sicilia)
The tests on the four days will be held from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m.
Individual tests consist of a set of multiple choice questions, administered online, on statistics topics as set forth in the Competition Rules.

The list of winners in the individual tests of the Italian Statistics Olympics is inserted in the “Albo nazionale delle Eccellenze” (National Register of Excellence) by the Ministry of Education according to the provisions of the appropriate Ministerial Decree.
Qualified schools are admitted to participate in the team phase, which starts on 27 January 2025. The term of this phase is scheduled for 19 February 2025. Also in this edition, the Italian Statistics Olympics are the national phase of the European statistics competition (ESC 2025). The Olympics winners (team phase) are admitted to the European competition organized by Eurostat in collaboration with the National Statistical Institutes (here the European rules ).
