In this section, results of experiments on Big Data are available, characterised by the use of non-official sources.
The use of data scanner to estimate prices of products, for example, seems to open the way for replacing traditional sources with Big Data sources.
Another example of experimentation is the use of mobile phones data to study people movements on the territory, in different time slots and days of the week. The analysis of such data makes it possible to classify population movements, from those of commuters to other more occasional, thus obtaining important and timely information on mobility, useful for managing transport infrastructures.
Furthermore, Istat is studying the possibility of using data from online job search archives to improve estimation models of important labour market indicators, as the unemployment rate.
Most of the experiments on big data are available in Italian language only.
