Collecting data on tourism is an activity foreseen by the Italian National Programme of Statistics, which includes the whole set of compulsory surveys to be carried out in the Country. Moreover, the survey is conducted in accordance with the European Regulation 692/2011 (repealing from 1 January 2012 the European Directive 95/57/EC),
The survey is continuous, conducted monthly, and it allows catching the seasonality of the tourist phenomena. The households are sampled through a random extraction from Municipalities’ registry office.
The interview is conducted with CAPI technique (Computer Assisted Personal Interview). Trips and same-day visits done by every member of the household in the reference period are collected.
