Quarterly non-financial accounts for General Government, households income and savings and non-financial corporation profits - Q2 2026

The Quarterly non-financial General Government (GG) account and the other figures presented in this press release are desumed from the Quarterly non-financial sector accounts. Data on Households and Non-financial corporations are commented in seasonally adjusted form, whereas data on the GG are presented in unadjusted form.

In the second quarter of 2026 the GG net borrowing over GDP stood at -2.0% (-2.1% in the second quarter of 2025).

The primary balance of the GG was positive, at 3.0% over GDP (2.2% in the second quarter of 2025).

The current balance of the GG was positive, at 2.9% over GDP (3.3% % in the second quarter of 2025).

The tax burden was 43.5%, 0.5 percentage points higher than in the second quarter of 2025.

Households’ gross disposable income increased by 0.4% over the previous quarter in nominal terms, while their final consumption expenditure grew by 1.7%.

Households’ saving rate was 6.7%, 1.2 percentage points lower than in the first quarter of 2026.

Households’ real gross disposable income increased by 0.9% with respect to the previous quarter.

The profit share of non-financial corporations decreased by 0.2 percentage points at 42.1.

The investment rate of non-financial corporations was at 26.4%, 0.7 percentage points higher than in the previous quarter.

Quarterly non-financial sector accounts and the non-financial general government accounts have been revised in line with the ordinary revision of the National Accounts released on 22 September. Starting with this publication, seasonally adjusted data on GG’s total expenditures, total revenues, and net lending/borrowing are available on the Istat website and in the tables attached to this press release.
