Extra-Eu foreign trade

Istat presents preliminary data on Italy’s foreign trade with non-EU countries in February 2011. The results of the survey on total foreign trade in February 2011 will be disseminated on coming 15 April.

In February 2011, exports to non-EU countries increased by 21.2% and imports by 25.6% compared with the same month of the previous year. The trade balance showed a deficit of 2,745 million euro compared with a 1,827 million euro deficit in the same month of 2010.

In February 2011, in seasonally-adjusted terms, exports decreased by 4.3% and imports decreased by 1.6% compared with January 2011. Over the last three months, seasonally-adjusted data showed a 6.4% increase in outgoing flows and a 8.0% increase in incoming flows in comparison with the previous three months.

In the period January- February 2011 exports to non-EU countries increased by 27.3% and imports by 35.5 % compared with the same period of 2010. The trade balance registered a deficit of 8,513 million euro compared to the deficit of 5,178 million euro in the same period of 2010. Excluding energy, the trade balance presented a surplus of 1,717 million euro compared with a 2,922 million euro surplus in January- February 2010.
