Extra-Eu foreign trade
Istat presents preliminary data on Italy’s foreign trade with non-EU countries in December 2011. The results of the survey on total foreign trade in December 2011 will be disseminated on coming 16 February.
In December 2011, exports to non-EU countries increased by 11.2% and imports decreased by 12.4% compared with the same month of the previous year. The trade balance showed a surplus of 1,999 million euro (Table 1) compared with a 1,451 million euro deficit in the same month of 2010.
In December 2011, in seasonally-adjusted terms, exports increased by 5.4% and imports decreased by 3.1% compared with November 2011. Over the last three months, seasonally-adjusted data showed a 0.9% increase in outgoing flows and a 2.8% decrease in incoming flows in comparison with the previous three months.
In 2011 exports to non-EU countries increased by 14.9% and imports by 12.6% compared with 2010. The trade balance registered a deficit of 21,611 million euro compared to the deficit of 22,068 million euro in 2010. Excluding energy, the trade balance presented a surplus of 39,291 million euro (Table 3) compared with a 30,930 million euro surplus in 2010.
