Foreign Trade

Istat presents data on Italy’s foreign trade as well as unit value and volume indices (base year 2005=100) referring to February 2012. The results of the flash estimates on extra-EU trade for February 2012 have been disseminated on March 22nd.
In February 2012 seasonally-adjusted data, compared to January 2012, showed an increase of 0.1% for export and 0.7% for imports. The increase, for exports, was of 0.5% for non EU countries while for EU countries was a decrease of 0,3%. As regards imports the decrease was recorded for non EU countries only (-0,4%) compared to the growth of EU markets (+1,7%). Over the last three months, seasonally-adjusted data, in comparison with the previous three months, showed an increase of 2.1% for outgoing flows and a drop of 1.6% for incoming flows.
In February 2012, compared with the same month of the previous year, trade rose by 7.3% for exports (+4.1% for EU area and +11.8% for non EU countries) and increased by 0.8% for imports (-2.4% for EU and +4.6% for non EU countries). The trade balance amounted to -5.5 billion Euro (1.2 billion Euro for EU area and -6.7 billion Euro for non EU countries) .
