Contractual wages and salaries - Q4 2023
The index of wages according to the national collective bargaining agreement measures the evolution of wages and salaries (per employee or per hour) determined by contractual provisions set by collective agreements; the indices are calculated with reference to the fixed employment structure of the base period (December 2015).
At the end of December 2023 the coverage rate (share of national collective agreements in force for the wage setting aspects) concerns 6% of employees – about 5.9 million – and 48.1% of the total amount of wages.
In December 2023 the contractual wage index is influenced by the advance payment of an amount – accruing in 2024 – for the government employees (see LD 145 18 October 2023).
In December 2023 the hourly index increased by 5.1% and the per employee indices rose by 5.2 from the previous month.

On average in 2023, the hourly indicex grew by 3.1% and the per employee index increased by 3.0% compared to 2022.
