Labour indicators for large firms (enterprises with 500 employees and more) are calculated with reference to the base year 2005 using the Ateco 2007 classification (Italian edition of Nace rev. 2).
In October 2010 the seasonally adjusted employment index in large firms decreased by 0.1% (-0.2% both in industry and in services) compared with September 2010; net of workers in cassa integrazione guadagni (c.i.g. = short-time working allowance) it was unchanged (-0.2% in industry and -0.3% in services).
The percentage change of the average of the last three months compared to the previous three months was -0.4% gross of c.i.g. and -0.3% net of c.i.g.
The unadjusted employment index in large firms decreased by 1.6% compared with October 2009 (-1.0% net of c.i.g.); in the average of the first ten months of 2010 compared with the average of the same period of 2009 employment fell by 1.8% (-1.0% net of c.i.g.).
In October 2010 the seasonally adjusted index of gross average earnings per hour decreased by 0.3% with respect to the previous month (-0.5% in industry and -0.4% in services). The percentage change of the average of the last three months compared to the previous three months was +0.4% (+0.9% in industry and unchanged in services).
The unadjusted index of gross average earnings per hour increased by 3.0% compared with October 2009 (+3.8% in industry and +2.6% in services); the percentage change in the period January- ctober 2010 compared with the same period of 2009 was +1.6% (+0.6% in industry and +2.1% in services).
