Export of italian regions - Updating fourth quarter 2023

Due to the innovations in the customs transmission procedures of extra-UE export data by economic operators, fourth quarter 2023 data recorded some specific issues of correct allocation of exports by province of origin. The adoption of appropriate estimation methods has improved the quality of territorial data with a limited impact on the data already published in the Press Release of 12 March (cf. Methodological Note p. 6). The updated data are available on Coeweb. Below is the updated version of the March 2024 Press Release to support data analysis.

In the fourth quarter of 2023, exports increased in seasonally-adjusted terms, compared with the previous period, for the Centre (+8.1%), for the South and Islands (+3.5%) and for the North-West (+2.1%) while decreased for the North-East (-0.7%).

In the 2023, compared with the previous year, exports rose in the South (+16.9%) and in the North-West (+2.4%) while dropped in the North-East (-0.8%), in the Centre (-3.1%) and in the Islands (-19.2%).

In the 2023, the more relevant increases, in terms of their contribution to the total export dynamic, were recorded in Campania (+29.2%), Piemonte (+7.3%) and Toscana (+4.7%). More significant falls were recorded in Lazio (-9.7%), Friuli-Venezia Giulia (-13.6%), Marche (-12.3%) and Sicilia (-16.6%).
