Large firms in industry and services: labour indicators

Labour indicators for large firms (enterprises with 500 employees and more) are calculated with reference to the base year 2005 using the Ateco 2007 classification (Italian edition of Nace rev. 2).
In March 2011 the seasonally adjusted employment index in large firms was unchanged (-0.1% both in industry and in services) compared with February 2011; also net of workers in cassa integrazione guadagni (c.i.g. = short-time working allowance) it was unchanged (0.0 in industry and -0.1% in services). The percentage change of the average of the last three months compared to the previous three months was unchanged gross of c.i.g. and increased by 0.3% net of c.i.g.

The unadjusted employment index in large firms decreased by 0.7% compared with March 2010 (-0.2% net of c.i.g.); The percentage change in the first quarter of 2011 with respect to same period of 2010 was -0.6% (-0.2% net of c.i.g.).

In March 2011 the seasonally adjusted index of gross average earnings per hours worked increased by 0.8% with respect to the previous month (+2.0% in industry and +0.7% in services). The percentage change of the average of the last three months compared to the previous three months was +0.8% (+2.5% in industry and 0.0 in services).

The unadjusted index of gross average earnings per hours worked increased by 4.7% compared with March 2010 (+5.5% in industry and +4.2% in services). The percentage change in the first quarter of 2011 with respect to same period of 2010 was +0.7% (+3.6% in industry and -1.0% in services).
