Retail trade - August 2023
In August 2023 estimates for seasonally adjusted index of value sales fell by 0.4% in the month on month series and volume dropped by 0.5%.
In the three months to August 2023 value of sales was up 0.4%, whereas volume of sales decreased by 1.0% when compared with the previous three-month period.
In August 2023 value of retail trade continued to grow for the 30th month in a row in the year on year series, rising by 2.4%, while volume sales fell by 4.1%.
In August 2023, when compared with the same month a year earlier, large-scale distribution was up 4.8%, small-scale distribution decreased by 0.2% and non-store retail sales grew by 1.3%.
Online sales were up 1.4% in August 2023 when compared with August 2022.
Looking at the value of sales for non-food products, data outlined a mixed picture across different categories in the year on year series. The strongest growth was reported for Cosmetic and toilet articles (+4.7%), while the largest fall was reported for Electric household appliances, audio-video equipment (-6.9%).
