Employment and unemployment - June 2023

In June 2023 the number of employed people rose, while unemployed and inactive persons decreased.

On a monthly basis, the increase of employment (+0.3%, +82 thousand) concerned men, women and all age groups. Overall, the employment rate rose to 61.5% (+0.2 p.p.).

In the last month, the fall of unemployed persons (-2.3%, -34 thousand) involved both genders and all age groups. The unemployment rate declined to 7.4% (-0.2 p.p.), the youth rate to 21.3% (-0.4 p.p.).

In June, the number of inactive persons aged 15 to 64 fell among men, women and those aged 25 and over, while it remained substantially stable for the youngest age group. The inactivity rate dropped to 33.5% (-0.1 p.p.).

In the second quarter of 2023, with respect to the first quarter, employment increased (+0.6%, +147 thousand).

In the last three months, a drop was registered for both unemployed persons (-4.0%, -80 thousand) and inactive people aged 15-64 years (-0.5%, -60 thousand).

Compared with June 2022, the number of employed persons rose by 1.7% (+385 thousand), the growth concerned both genders and all age groups except 35-49 years; the employment rate showed an increase of 1.1 p.p. .

On a yearly basis, the rise of employed people was accompanied by a decrease of both unemployed (-8.7%, -178 thousand) and inactive persons aged 15-64 (-2.2%, -280 thousand).
