Extra-Eu foreign trade

Istat presents preliminary data on Italy’s foreign trade with non- U countries in April 2011. The results of the survey on total foreign trade in April 2011 will be disseminated on coming 17 June.

In April 2011, exports to non-EU countries increased by 17.8% and imports by 30.0% compared with the same month of the previous year. The trade balance showed a deficit of 3,072 million euro compared with a 1,275 million euro deficit in the same month of 2010.

In April 2011, in seasonally-adjusted terms, exports increased by 2.8% and imports by 2.4% compared with March 2011. Over the last three months, seasonally-adjusted data showed a 3.6% increase in outgoing flows and a 5.8% increase in incoming flows in comparison with the previous three months.

In the period January-April 2011 exports to non-EU countries increased by 21.6% and imports by 31.0% compared with the same period of 2010. The trade balance registered a deficit of 14,454 million euro compared to the deficit of 7,995 million euro in the same period of 2010. Excluding energy, the trade balance presented a surplus of 6,539 million euro (Table 3) compared with a 8,821 million euro surplus in January- April 2010.
