The so-called “analytical” classification of crimes is a version of the classification used by Istat which groups the elements of the catalog of offenses (thesaurus) through an intermediate internal code (codefin).

Unlike the synthetic classification for the categories of offenses, the analytical classification is not based on the titles and sections of the criminal code, but the “arguments” of both the codes and the complementary laws are detailed widely, represented through sets of elements of the thesaurus.

This classification, together with the synthetic classification, is the basis of the presentation of the data of the “crime statistics” as the statistics of the proceedings registered in the public prosecutors offices for which prosecution is continued.

The dissemination of data takes place not only through periodical publications but also through the I.stat database.
