Retail trade - March 2022

In March 2022 estimates for seasonally adjusted index of retail trade fell in the month on month series, decreasing by 0.5% in value terms and by 0.6% in volume terms.

In the three months to March 2022 value of sales grew by 0.2%, while volume of sales dropped by 0.8% when compared with the previous three-month period.

In March 2022 both value and volume of retail trade continued to grow for the 13th month in a row in the year on year series. Value sales increased by 5.6% and volume sales rose by 2.5% comparing to March 2021.

In March 2022, when compared with the same month a year earlier, large-scale distribution was up 4.6%, small-scale distribution rose by 7.7% and non-store retail sales grew by 7.0%.

Online sales, following growth in February, fell by 3.9% in March 2022 when compared with March 2021.

Looking at the value of sales for non-food products, all sectors experienced growth besides Computers and telecomunication equipment (-0.5%). The largest increases were reported for Shoes, leather goods and travel items (+24.6%), Furniture and textile items and household furnishings (+20.9%) and Clothing (+20.5%).
