The United Nations Privacy Enhancing Technologies Lab, a research project on the topic of privacy-preserving technologies was announced at Dubai Expo 2020  last week. It refers to technologies that support data providers and users to share information securely, using protocols that enable them to produce useful output data without “seeing” the input data.

Among the National Statistical Institutes involved in the project, including Statistics Netherlands, UK National Statistical Office and Statistics Canada, there is also the Italian National Institute of Statistics (Istat) represented by the team composed by Mauro Bruno Fabrizio De Fausti, De Cubellis and Monica Scannapieco, who since about two years have been working to an important UNECE project on Input Privacy Preserving Techniques, developing application prototypes applied to case studies of official statistics.
