Employment and unemployment (Provisional estimates) - November 2021

In November 2021 the number of employed people increased, while a drop was recorded for both unemployed and inactive persons.

On a monthly basis, the growth of employment (+0.3%, +64 thousand) involved men and women, people aged 25-34 and over50. Overall, the employment rate rose to 58.9% (+0.2 p.p.).

In the last month, the decline of unemployed people (-1.8%, -43 thousand) concerned both men and women, and all age groups except people aged 35-49. The unemployment rate fell to 9.2% (-0.2 p.p.), the youth to 28.0% (-0.2 p.p.).

In November the decrease of inactive people aged 15-64 (-0.3%, -46 thousand) was widespread by sex and by age group, with the exception of people aged 15-24. The inactivity rate dropped to 35.0% (-0.1 p.p.).

In the period September-November 2021, with respect to the previous quarter (June-August), the employment rose (+0.3%, +70 thousand) for both genders.

In the last three months, unemployed persons remained substantially unchanged whereas a drop was registered for inactive people aged 15-64 years (-0.8%, -110 thousand).

Compared with November 2020, the number of employed persons increased by 2.2% (+494 thousand), the growth concerning both genders and all age classes with the exception of people aged 35-49 years; the employment rate showed an increase of 1.6 p.p. .

On a yearly basis, the rise of employed people was accompanied by a decrease of both unemployed persons (-2.2%, -53 thousand) and inactive people aged 15-64 (-4.6%, -633 thousand).
