Turnover in services

The turnover in services index measures the quarterly evolution of sales by service sector enterprises at current prices. Since the first quarter 2018 indices have been calculated with reference to the base year 2015 using the Ateco 2007 classification (Italian edition of NACE Rev.2).

In the fourth quarter 2020 the seasonally adjusted services turnover index decreased by 2.2% compared to the previous quarter. In particular the index decreased very deeply in accommodation and food service activities (-32.8%). Moreover, it decreased in wholesale trade, trade and repair of motor vehicles and motorcycles (-1.2%), professional, scientific and technical activities (-0.6%), information and communication (-0.5%). The index increased for administrative and support service activities (+6.8%) and transportation and storage (+0.2%).

In the fourth quarter of 2020 the services turnover index decreased by 7.6% compared to the same quarter of the previous year. In particular, the index decreased by 50.0% for accommodation and food service activities, by 16.3% for administrative and support service activities, by 16.1% for transportation and storage. Slightly smaller decreases have been registered for professional, scientific and technical activities (-3.7%), for wholesale trade, trade and repair of motor vehicles and motorcycles (-2.2%) and for information and communication activities (-0.5%).
