Foreign trade and import prices

In May 2020 seasonally-adjusted data, compared to April 2020, increased by +35.0% for outgoing flows and by +5.6% for incoming flows. Exports rose for both EU countries (+33.7%) and non EU countries (+36.5%). Imports grew by +12.4% for EU countries and decreased by -2.7% for non EU countries.

In May 2020, compared with the same month of the previous year, both exports and imports fell (-30.4% and -35,2% respectively). Outgoing flows decreased by -29.4% for EU countries and by -31.5% for non EU countries. Incoming flows dropped by -32.9% for EU area and by -38.2% for non EU area. The trade balance in May 2020 amounted to +5,584 million Euros (+1,505 million Euros for EU countries and +4,079 million Euros for non EU countries).

In May 2020, import prices decreased by 0.1% on monthly basis (-0.4% for the euro zone, +0.3% for the non-euro zone). Over the last three months, compared to the previous three months, import prices decreased by 5.7% (-1.0% for the euro zone and -10.1% for the non-euro zone).

Import prices decreased by 8.6% in May 2020, compared to the same month a year ago (-2.3% for the euro zone and -14.1% for the non-euro zone).
