Employment and unemployment (provisional estimates)

In November 2019 the estimate of employed people increased (+0.2%, +41 thousand); the employment rate rose at 59.4% (+0.1 percentage points).

The growth of employment was the result of an increase among women and a substantial stability among men. A rise is observed among 25-34 aged people (+34 thousand) and over 50 (+21 thousand), while a decrease regarded people aged 35-49 and under 25.

The number of unemployed persons grew (+0.5%, +12 thousand in the last month); the increase was the result of a growth among men and a light decrease for women, and involved people aged 15-34. The unemployment rate remained stable at 9.7%, the youth rate climbed to 28.6% (+0.4 percentage points).

Inactive people aged 15-64 decreased (-0.6%, -72 thousand), the fall concerned both men and women. The inactivity rate fell to 34.0% (-0.2 percentage points).

In comparison with the previous quarter, in the period from September to November 2019 a slight increase of employment is registered (+0.1%, +18 thousand) and it concerned both men and women.

In the last three months, the rise of employment was accompanied by the growth of unemployed persons (+0.3%, +7 thousand) and the drop of inactive people aged 15-64 years (-0.4%, -59 thousand).

Compared with November 2018, employment increased by 1.2% (+285 thousand). The growth concerned both men and women, and all age groups, with the exception of people aged 35-49.

On a yearly basis, the rise of employment was accompanied by a fall of unemployed persons (-7.1%, -194 thousand) and inactive people aged 15-64 (-1.5%, -203 thousand).
