Employment and unemployment (provisional)

In September 2019 the estimate of employed people lightly decreased (-0.1%, -32 thousand), while the employment rate stayed at 59.1%.

The decrease of employment involved both men and women. A growth is observed among under 35 aged people (+16 thousand), while the employment decreased for over 35 aged people (-49 thousand).

The number of unemployed persons rose (+3.0%, +73 thousand in the last month); the growth involved both men and women and all age groups, with the exception of people aged 25-34. The unemployment rate rose to 9.9% (+0.3 percentage points), the youth rate increased to 28.7% (+1.1 percentage points).

Inactive people aged 15-64 decreased (-0.6%, -77 thousand), as the result of a reduction among both men and women. The inactivity rate dropped to 34.3% (-0.2 percentage points).

In the period from July to September 2019, employment stayed stable in comparison with the previous quarter, even by gender.

In the last three months, the stability of employment was accompanied by the drop of unemployed persons (-1.9%, -48 thousand) and the slight decrease of inactive people aged 15-64 years (-0.1%, -9 thousand).

Compared with September 2018, employment increased by 0.5% (+111 thousand). The growth concerned both men and women, and all age groups, with the exception of people aged 35-49.

On a yearly basis, the rise of employment was accompanied by a fall of unemployed persons (-4.8%, -129 thousand) and inactive people aged 15-64 (-1.0%, -137 thousand).
