Employment and unemployment (provisional estimates)

After the slight decrease in the previous months, in August 2019 the estimate of employed remained stable; the employment rate stayed at 59.2%.

The stability of employment involved both men and women. A growth is observed among over 50 aged people (+34 thousand), while in the other age groups the employment decreased.

The number of unemployed persons declined (-3.4%, -87 thousand in the last month); the reduction involved both men and women and all age groups. The unemployment rate decreased to 9.5% (-0.3 percentage points), the youth rate dropped to 27.1% (-1.3 percentage points).

Inactive people aged 15-64 increased (+0.6%, +73 thousand), as the result of a rise among both men and women. The inactivity rate grew to 34.5% (+0.2 percentage points).

In the period from June to August 2019, employment rose in comparison with the previous quarter (+0.2%, +45 thousand), even by gender.

In the last three months, the rise of employment was accompanied by the drop of unemployed persons (-3.7%, -95 thousand) and the slight increase of inactive people aged 15-64 years (+0.1%, +9 thousand).
