Foreign trade and import prices

In January 2019 seasonally-adjusted data, compared to December 2018, increased for outgoing flows (+2.5%) and decreased for incoming flows (-4.1%). Exports rose for non EU countries (+5.9%) and remained stable for EU countries (0.0%). Imports fell both for EU countries (-5.0%) and for non EU countries (-2.7%).

Over the last three months, seasonally-adjusted data, compared to the three months earlier, remained stable for exports (0.0%) and dropped for imports (-1.1%).

In January 2019, compared with the same month of the previous year, both exports and imports rose (+2.9% and +1.7%, respectively). Outgoing flows increased by +5.4% for non EU countries and by +1.2% for EU countries. Incoming flows rose by +5.6% for non EU area and decreased by -1.1% for EU area. The trade balance in January 2019 amounted to +322 million Euros (+907 million Euros for EU area and -586 million Euros for non EU countries).

In January 2019 the total import prices index decreased by 0.5% compared to the previous month (the index increased by 0.3% for the euro zone and decreased by 1.2% for the non-euro zone); the total twelve-month rate of change increased by 0.4% (respectively increased by 1.2% for the euro zone and decreased by 0.4% for the non-euro zone).

The quarterly total index of import prices decreased by 1.5% compared to the previous period, increased by 0.2% for the euro zone and decreased by 3.1% for the non-euro zone
