In Febuary 2019, the consumer confidence index decreased from 113.9 to 112.4. The economic component diminished from 130.5 to 126.6; the personal one from 108.9 to 108.2; the current one from 112.4 to 109.4 and, finally, the future one from 117.4 to 116.9.
As for the business confidence surveys, the business confidence climate index (IESI, Istat Economic Sentiment Indicator) slackened passing from 99.1 to 98.3.
The confidence index in manufacturing weakened from 102.0 to 101.7. Assessments on inventories and expectations on production changed slightly (balance from 5.2 to 5.4 and from 6.6 to 6.0, respectively) and the assessments on order books remained substantially stable (balance from -10.4 to -10.5).
The confidence index in construction went down from 139.2 to 135.5. In particular, the assessments on order books/construction plans remained stable (the relative balance at -21.3) and employment expectations worsened (the relative balance from 5.3 to 0.3).
The market services confidence index slipped from 98.6 to 98.3. The balances concerning both assessments and expectations on order books changed for the worse (from -2.3 to -3.6 and from 5.7 to 4.2 respectively) while the expectations on business trend improved (balance from 3.2 to 5.2).
The retail trade confidence index rose from 102.9 to 105.4. Both the assessments on current sales and the expectations on the future ones improved (balances from 6.0 to 13.3 and from 18.1 to 20.4 respectively). The balance concerning the assessments on volume of stocks also went up, passing from 8.2 to 9.9. The confidence index increased both in the large scale distribution (from 104.7 to 106.9) and in the small and medium scale one (from 100.2 to 104.2).
