Employment and unemployment (monthly)

In order to improve the timeliness of statistical information on the Italian labour market and in accordance with the agreements made within the European Union, Istat publishes monthly estimates of the main labour market indicators resulting from the “Labour force survey”.

In September 2017, 23.138 million persons were employed, unchanged over August 2017. Unemployed were 2.891 million, -0.2% over the previous month.

Employment rate was 58.1%, -0.1 percentage points over August 2017, unemployment rate was 11.1%, unchanged over the previous month, and inactivity rate was 34.3%, +0.1 percentage points in a month.

Youth unemployment rate (aged 15-24) was 35.7%, +0.6 percentage points over the previous month and youth unemployment ratio in the same age group was 9.4%, unchanged over August 2017.
