The building permits indicators measure the quarterly evolution in the number of dwellings used for residential purposes, square metres of residential useful floor area and square metres of non-residential area using the Classification of types of Construction (CC).
Starting from this edition, ISTAT publishes seasonally-adjusted time series of building permit indicators. Moreover, the frequency of data publication changes from half-yearly to quarterly.
During the first half of 2017, the residential construction units increased compared with the same period of the previous year (+11.7% in the number of dwellings and +11.8% in useful floor area). The non-residential buildings increased by 37.7% compared with the same period of 2016.
The number of dwellings in new buildings increased by 9.5% in the first quarter and it increased by 13.6% in the second quarter with respect to first and second quarter 2016.
The useful floor
area increased by 12.3% in the first quarter and by 11.4% in the second quarter compared with the same periods of 2016.
Non-residential area increased by 49.8% in the first quarter of 2017 (influenced by the comparison with the first quarter of 2016 which is one of the lowest values since 2000) and by 28.1% in the second quarter with respect to first and second quarter 2016.
