Employment and unemployment (monthly)

In order to improve the timeliness of statistical information on the Italian labour market and in accordance with the agreements made within the European Union, Istat publishes monthly estimates of the main labour market indicators resulting from the “Labour force survey”.

In February 2017, 22.862 million persons were employed, unchanged over January 2017. Unemployed were 2.984 million, -2.7% over the previous month.

Employment rate was 57.5%, unchanged over January 2017, unemployment rate was 11.5%, -0.3 percentage points over the previous month, and inactivity rate was 34.8%, +0.1 percentage points in a month.

Youth unemployment rate (aged 15-24) was 35.2%, -1.7 percentage points over January 2017 and youth unemployment ratio in the same age group was 8.9%, -0.7 percentage points in a month.
