Foreign trade and import prices

Istat presents data on Italy’s foreign trade as well as unit value and volume indices (base year 2010=100) referring to May 2016. The results of the flash estimates on extra-EU trade for May 2016 have been disseminated on June 23rd.

 

  • In May 2016 seasonally-adjusted data, compared to April 2016, decreased by 0.2% for outgoing flows and by 1.2% for incoming flows. Exports grew by 2.1% for EU countries and fell by 3.0% for non EU countries. Imports decreased for both: -1.3% for European countries and -1.2% for non EU countries. During the quarter March-May 2016, seasonally-adjusted data, in comparison with the previous quarter, increased by 1.3% for exports and by 0.2% for imports.

 

  • In May 2016, compared with the same month of the previous year, exports increased by 2.4% and imports decreased by 0.2%. Outgoing flows increased by 5.8% for EU countries while decreased by 1.7% for non EU countries. Incoming flows increased by 4.0 for EU area and fell by 5.9% for non EU area. The trade balance in May amounted to +5,0 billion Euros (+1,777 million Euros for EU area and +3,257 million Euros for non EU countries).
