Consumer and business confidence

In October 2015 with regard to the consumer survey, the confidence climate index increased from 113.0 to 116.9. The increase is due to all components: economic, personal, current and future, which rose from 143.9 to 153.0, from 103.6 to 103.9, from 108.0 to 109.3 and from 122.3 to 127.1, respectively. The balance concerning expectations on unemployment decreased from 6 to -2. The balance on inflation perceptions referring to the last 12 months remained stable (at -19). The balance on inflation expectations for next 12 months decreased from -18 to -23.

With regard to business surveys, the composite business confidence climate index (IESI, Istat Economic Sentiment Indicator) increased from 106.1 in September to 107.5.

The confidence index in manufacturing rose from 104.4 to 105.9. Assessments on order books and production expectations improved (from -11 to -9 and from 12 to 14, respectively), and inventories remained stable (at 3).

The confidence index in construction fell from 123.3 to 119.8. Assessments on order books and construction plans worsened (from -30 to -35) and employment expectations remained stable at -7.

The market services confidence index rose from 112.2 to 113.1. The index increased in Business services and Other services (from 106.5 to 110.1) while it decreased in Transportation and storage (from 125.5 to 121.3), in Tourism services (from 103.6 to 101.3) and in Information and communication (from 106.2 to 105.8).

The retail trade confidence index rose from 109.2 to 116.6. The confidence increased in the large scale distribution (from 106.9 to 116.1) and in small and medium scale distribution (from 114.5 to 117.3).
