Foreign trade

Istat presents data on Italy’s foreign trade as well as unit value and volume indices (base year 2010=100) referring to March 2014. The results of the flash estimates on extra-EU trade for March 2014 have been disseminated on April 24th.

  • In March 2014 seasonally-adjusted data, compared to February, decreased by 0.8% for outgoing flows and 1.0% for incoming flows. The fall in exports is due to the decrease in sales to both: EU countries (-0.5%) and non EU countries (-1.2%). Imports decreased for non EU countries (-3.2%) and increased for EU countries (+0.6%). Over the last three months, seasonally-adjusted data, in comparison with the previous three months, showed a growth of 0.3% for exports and a fall of 1.0% for imports.
  • In March 2014, compared with the same month of the previous year, trade increased by 1.2% for exports (+5.2% for EU area and -3.4% for non EU countries) and fell by 1.3% for imports (+1.8% for EU and -5.4% for non EU countries). The trade balance in March amounted to +3.9 billion Euro (+1.2 billion Euro for EU area and +2.7 billion Euro for non EU countries) (Table 1).
