The Media relations office is responsible for all dealings with the media - from national newspapers, magazines, broadcasters and online publications - and provides ongoing information, monitoring and support for publications, articles and television programmes.
Journalists can get in touch with a media relations officer to request for data, publication and in-depth information on specific issues. Further, the press office also provides support on the use of statistical data in TV and radio features.

Press releases on the main socio-economic indicators are issued according to a fixed press release calendar, published and distributed to media editorial offices in early January every year.
In addition to briefings on calendar-scheduled press releases reserved for news agencies, the office organizes press conferences designed to highlight the results of surveys on issues of particular interest. Invitations to the conferences are extended to journalists from the print media, TV and radio broadcasters and online journals. The conferences are usually presented by senior managers of the Institute often joined by experts from the academic world or public and private institutions.
Since August 4th, 2009 the President of Istat is Enrico Giovannini, Professor of Economic Statistics at the Economics Department of the University of Rome "Tor Vergata". From January 2001 to July 2009, he was Chief Statistician and Director of the Statistics Directorate of the Organization for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD) in Paris.
