In 2021 GDP at current prices grew by 7.3% (to 1,782,050 million euro) compared with the previous year. The chained volume measure of GDP increased by 6.7%.

Gross fixed capital formation rose in volume by 16.5%, final consumption expenditure by 4.2%, exports by 13.4% and imports of goods and services by 14.7%.

National demand (excluding changes in inventories) has contributed to GDP growth by 6.3 percentage points, net exports by 0.1 points and changes in inventories by 0.3 percentage points.

Value added in volume increased in mining and quarrying, manufacturing and other industrial activities (+11.5%), in constructions (+21.6%) and in services activities (+4.7%); it decreased in agriculture, forestry and fishing (-1.3%),

In 2021 the profit share of non-financial corporations is 41.0% and the investment rate 23.1%.

The disposable income of consumer households increased by 3.7% in value and 2.1% in purchasing power in 2021. Due to the concomitant increase in households final consumption (+6.9%) the saving rate declined to 13.1% from 15.6% in 2020.

General Government net borrowing was -128,902 million euro: -7.2 % of GDP, compared with -9.5 % in 2020.

Primary balance (General Government net borrowing net of interests) was -3.7% of GDP (-6.0% in 2020).
