The Anagrafe Nazionale della Popolazione Residente – ANPR (Italian National Registry of the Resident Population), established with Legislative Decree n. 82/2005 (Digital Administration Code), is under the responsibility of the Italian Ministry of the Interior and was created to convey and bring together the data of the individual municipal registries in a single national archive. ANPR is the national database that simplifies demographic services to encourage the digitalising of services for citizens, enterprises and organisations. ANPR also represents an unmissable opportunity to modernise the entire demography and population official statistics production system, for which administrative population registries remain the primary source. If appropriately queried, ANPR data, indeed, provide timely, certified and high-quality statistical information. Their exploitation for statistical purposes also allows the traditional respondents (municipal Anagrafe and Stato Civile offices) to be relieved of any statistical burden.
