Planning a survey on gender-based violence
Following the adoption by the Council of Europe of the “Convention on Preventing and Combating Violence against Women and Domestic Violence”, the so-called Istanbul Convention of 2011, the European Commission promoted a Survey on the Prevalence of Gender-based Violence within the Statistical Systems of EU countries. This ensures data comparability and supports Member States fulfil Article 11 of this Convention. Furthermore, to develop and test an appropriate survey methodology for European countries, a Task Force was established in 2016 with the participation of Austria, Denmark, France, Germany, Hungary, Italy, Latvia, Luxembourg, the Netherlands, Portugal, Spain, and Sweden.
This ebook collects, systematises, and updates the work and documents that Istat has produced for the methodological support activities of this Task Force, from November 2016 until 2024. This ebook deals with the different topics essential to respond to the data request promoted by the Directive (EU) 2024/1385 of the European Parliament and of the Council (14th May 2024) on combating violence against women and domestic violence. They range from the construction of the questionnaire and the definition of the indicators to the methodology and the attention paid to carrying out this Survey.
