Turnover of industry and services - January 2026
In January 2026, estimates for the seasonally adjusted turnover industrial index decreased by 0.3% in value (-1.7% in volume) when compared to the previous month (+0.6% in value and -1.4% in volume in the domestic market and -1.9% both in value and volume in the non-domestic one). For services, the seasonally adjusted turnover index increased in the month-on-month series by 0.9% in value while decreasing by 0.1% in volume.
In January 2026 the calendar adjusted industry turnover index decreased by 1.0% in value and by 1.1% in volume (-0.7% in value and -0.8% in volume in the domestic market and -1.4% in value and -2.0% in volume in the non-domestic one). In services, the calendar adjusted turnover index increased by 0.5% in value and decreased by 0.5% in volume when compared with the same month a year earlier. Calendar working days in January 2026 being 20 versus 21 days in January 2025.
This bulletin presents the data regarding the revision of the time series of the unadjusted indices with reference to 2025. For service turnover, the revision is also extended to the year 2024.
Starting from January 2026, the survey of turnover in services has begun using administrative data relating to electronic invoicing and electronic receipts, thanks to the collaboration between Istat and the Revenue Agency. This innovation has enabled a reduction in the sample size of over 43%, from approximately 25,500 enterprises in 2025 to the current 14,500. Further details are provided in the attached methodological note, on pages 8 and 9.
