Retail trade – May 2024
In May 2024, the seasonally adjusted index increased by 0.4% in value and 0.2% in volume compared to the previous month.
Over the three months leading to May 2024, the value of sales increased by 0.1%, while the volume of sales declined by 0.1% compared to the previous three-month period.
The value of retail trade, after falling in April, was up 0.4% year-on-year, while sales volume dropped by 0.8%
In a year-on-year comparison for May 2024, large-scale distribution grew by 0.9%, small-scale distribution rose by 0.2%, and non-store retail sales fell by 1.6%.
After growing in April, online sales declined in May 2024, showing a contraction of 1.4% compared to May 2023.
The year-on-year analysis of non-food product sales in May 2024 showed notable variations across different categories. Optical instruments and photographic equipment saw the largest increase, rising by 3.4%, followed by Cosmetics and toilet articles at 3.2%, while Electric household appliances and audio-video equipment experienced the largest decline, falling by 6.2%.
