Retail trade - March 2025
In March 2025, the seasonally adjusted index for retail trade decreased by 0.5% in both value and volume terms compared to the previous month.
In the first quarter of 2025, the value of retail sales dropped by 0.2%, while sales volume contracted by 0.5% compared to the previous three-month period.
On a year-on-year basis, the value of retail trade declined by 2.8%, while volume decreased by 4.2%.
In March 2025, all distribution channels experienced year-on-year declines: large-scale distribution contracted by 2.6%, small-scale distribution fell by 3.1% and non-store retail sales declined by 4.7%. Likewise, online sales were down 1.3% compared to March 2024, marking the third consecutive decline.
The non-food product category recorded predominantly negative year-on-year results. The largest contractions were observed in Stationery, books, newspapers and magazines (-4.5%), and Shoes, leather goods and travel items (-4.2%). The only positive performances were in Cosmetic and toilet articles, which grew by 1.8% and Pharmaceutical products, which increased by 0.6%.
