Estimates of value of retail sales for June 2019 were up 1.9% compared with May 2019. The quantity sold in June 2019 rose by 2.0% in the month-on-month series.
The second quarter of 2019 (April – June 2019), adjusted for seasonal variation, saw a slight increase, growing by 0.1% both in value and volume terms.
In June 2019, value of sales grew by 1.3% from the same period a year ago, while volume of sales was 1.5% above June 2018.
Large scale distribution was up 1.7% year-on-year and small scale distribution was estimated to be unchanged from June 2018.
E-commerce increased by 15.4% in June 2019 when compared with a year earlier.
Looking at the value of sales for non-food products, the strongest growths in sales were reported for Computers and telecommunications equipment (+7.2%) and Shoes, leather goods and travel items (+4.7%), while the largest falls concerned Stationery, books, newspapers and magazines (-2.8%) and Pharmaceutical products (-1.2%).
