Retail trade
The retail trade index measures the monthly evolution of the turnover at current prices of enterprises with retail sale outlets. With effect from January 2013 the indices are calculated with reference to the base year 2010 using the Ateco 2007 classification (Italian edition of Nace Rev. 2).
The value of retail trade in June 2017 increased by 0.6% from the previous month (+0.9% for food goods and +0.5% for non-food goods) and increased by 1.5% compared to June 2016 (+1.7% for food goods and +1.6% for non-food goods).
Looking at the quarterly movement (Quarter 2), in the three months to June 2017, the value of retail trade is estimated to have decreased by 0.3%, following a growth of 0.7% in Quarter 1 (Jan-Mar 2017).
In June 2017, the volume of retail trade increased by 0.8% compared with May 2017. Whilst there was a year-on-year growth (+1.3%) in the volume index in June 2017, the 3 month on 3 month growth rates showed a decline
(-0.2%).
Total sales for large scale distribution through June 2017 increased by 2.4% from the same period of the previous year, while the index for small scale distribution rose by 0.9%.
