In August 2019 the monthly growth rate of sales decreased by 0.6% in both value and volume.
In the three months to August 2019, the value of retail trade rose by 0.9%, while the quantity sold grew by 0.8% when compared to the previous three months.
Year-on-year both value and volume of retail trade increased for the third consecutive month in August 2019, growing by 0.7% and 0.5% respectively.
In August 2019, large scale distribution was up 1.2% year-on-year while small scale distribution was down 0.5% compared to August 2018.
Year-on-year online sales fell to 19.4% in August 2019, after 23.4% reported in July 2019.
Looking at the value of sales for non-food products, the largest growths were reported for Furniture and textile items and household furnishings (+2.6%) and Cosmetic and toilet articles (+2.2%), while the largest drops concerned Electric household appliances, audio-video equipment (-1.7%) and Stationery, books, newspapers and magazines (-1.6%).
