Retail trade - April 2024
In April 2024, the seasonally adjusted index fell slightly by 0.1% month-on-month in value terms. Sales volume experienced a larger contraction, decreasing by 0.3%.
Over the three months leading to April 2024, the value of sales decreased by 0.2%, while the volume of sales declined by 0.4% compared to the previous three-month period.
The value of retail trade, which had been growing since March 2021, showed a year-on-year decline, contracting by 1.9%. Similarly, sales volume dropped by 3.3%.
Year-on-year comparison for April 2024 indicates a decrease of 3.8% in large-scale distribution, a decline of 0.5% in small-scale distribution and a fall of 0.8% in non-store retail sales.
Following a decline in March, online sales rebounded in April 2024, showing an increase of 7.4% compared to April 2023.
The year-on-year analysis of non-food product sales revealed significant variations across different categories. Pharmaceutical products saw the largest increase, rising by 3.7%, while optical instruments and photographic equipment experienced the largest decline, falling by 2.0%.
