The AIECE General Report
Since 2011, Istat has been a member of the AIECE (Association of European Conjuncture Institutes). Established in 1957 on the initiative of DIW (Germany), IRES (Belgium), and INSEE (France), AIECE is an association of independent European institutes involved in surveying economic conditions and trends, as well as short-term macroeconomic forecasting.
The Association comprises 40 member or “observing” institutes, representing 19 countries and 5 international organizations. Its primary objective is to stimulate exchanges among members to improve their understanding of international economic developments. This includes exchanging statistical or institutional information, discussing economic policy guidelines, and collaborating on joint research activities.
Twice a year, the Association holds meetings where a General Report is presented. This report incorporates member institutes’ forecasts and responses to an ad hoc questionnaire on the most pressing cyclical and structural issues at the time of the meeting.
Istat recently compiled and presented the AIECE General Report at the German Economic Institute DIW in Cologne, Germany (May 16-17, 2024). Both the Report and Istat’s presentations can be found on the AIECE website.
