Extra-Eu foreign trade
Istat presents preliminary data on Italy’s foreign trade with non- U countries in October2010. The results of the survey on total foreign trade in October 2010 will be disseminated on coming 15 December.
In October 2010, exports to non-EU countries increased by 21.9% and imports by 32.0% compared with the same month of the previous year. The trade balance showed a deficit of 1,002 million euro (Table 1) compared with a 76 million euro surplus in the same month of 2009.
In October 2010, in seasonally-adjusted terms, exports increased by 1.6% and imports increased by 3.2% compared with September 2010. Over the last three months, seasonallyadjusted data showed a 0.7% decrease in outgoing flows and a 3.0% increase in incoming flows in comparison with the previous three months.
In the period January- October 2010 exports to non-EU countries increased by 15.9% and imports by 27.1% compared with the same period of 2009. The trade balance registered a deficit of 16,953 million euro compared to the deficit of 4,383 million euro in the same period of 2009. Excluding energy, the trade balance presented a surplus of 24,154 million euro (Table 3) compared with a 29,961 million euro surplus in January- October 2009.
