Extra-Eu foreign trade
Istat presents preliminary data on Italy’s foreign trade with non-EU countries in September 2013. The results of the survey on total foreign trade in September 2013 will be disseminated on coming 15 November.
In September 2013, exports to non-EU countries increased by 1.0% and imports decreased by 5.7% compared with the same month of the previous year. The trade balance showed a surplus of 318 million euro (Table 1) compared with a 633 million euro deficit in the same month of 2012.
In September 2013, in seasonally-adjusted terms, exports increased by 1.2% and imports increased by 0.4% compared with August 2013. Over the last three months, seasonally-adjusted data showed a 1.8% decrease in outgoing flows and a 2.1% increase in incoming flows in comparison with the previous three months.
In the period January-September 2013 exports to non-EU countries increased by 2.1% and imports decreased by 10.1% compared with the same period of 2012. The trade balance registered a surplus of 11,381 million euro compared to the deficit of 5,175 million euro in the same period of 2012. Excluding energy, the trade balance presented a surplus of 49,356 million euro (Table 3) compared with a 42,817 million euro surplus in January-September 2012.
