Extra-Eu foreign trade

Istat presents preliminary data on Italy’s foreign trade with non-EU countries in October 2011. The results of the survey on total foreign trade in October 2011 will be disseminated on coming 19 December.

In October 2011, exports to non-EU countries increased by 8.4% and imports by 1.9% compared with the same month of the previous year. The trade balance showed a deficit of 808 million euro (Table 1) compared with a 1,647 million euro deficit in the same month of 2010.

In October 2011, in seasonally-adjusted terms, exports decreased by 5.1% and imports increased by 0.2% compared with September 2011. Over the last three months, seasonally-adjusted data showed a 1.5% increase in outgoing flows and a 0.5% decrease in incoming flows in comparison with the previous three months.

In the period January-October 2011 exports to non-EU countries increased by 15.7% and imports by 16.4% compared with the same period of 2010. The trade balance registered a deficit of 22,364 million euro compared to the deficit of 18,556 million euro in the same period of 2010. Excluding energy, the trade balance presented a surplus of 28,107 million euro (Table 3) compared with a 24,173 million euro surplus in January-October 2010.
