Istat presents preliminary data on Italy’s foreign trade with non-EU countries in May 2011. The results of the survey on total foreign trade in May 2011 will be disseminated on coming 15 July.
In May 2011, exports to non-EU countries increased by 20.9% and imports by 20.6% compared with the same month of the previous year. The trade balance showed a deficit of 1,819 million euro compared with a 1,546 million euro deficit in the same month of 2010.
In May 2011, in seasonally-adjusted terms, exports decreased by 0.9% and imports by 2.2% compared with April 2011. Over the last three months, seasonally-adjusted data showed a 3.0% increase in outgoing flows and a 3.6% increase in incoming flows in comparison with the previous three months.
In the period January-May 2011 exports to non-EU countries increased by 21.4% and imports by 28.8% compared with the same period of 2010. The trade balance registered a deficit of 16,276 million euro compared to the deficit of 9,541 million euro in the same period of 2010. Excluding energy, the trade balance presented a surplus of 9,339 million euro (Table 3) compared with a 11,534 million euro surplus in January- May 2010.
