Extra-Eu foreign trade
Istat presents preliminary data on Italy’s foreign trade with non-EU countries in March 2014. The results of the survey on total foreign trade in March 2014 will be disseminated on coming 16 May.
In March 2014, exports to non-EU countries decreased by 3.5% and imports decreased by 5.4% compared with the same month of the previous year. The trade balance showed a surplus of 2,702 million euro compared with a 2,531 million euro surplus in the same month of 2013.
In March 2014, in seasonally-adjusted terms, exports decreased by 1.2% and imports decreased by 3.2% compared with February 2014. Over the last three months, seasonally-adjusted data showed a 0.5% decrease in outgoing flows and a 3.4% decrease in incoming flows in comparison with the previous three months.
In the first quarter of 2014 exports to non-EU countries decreased by 2.1% and imports decreased by 7.7% compared with the same period of 2013. The trade balance registered a surplus of 3,174 million euro compared to the surplus of 814 million euro in the same period of 2013. Excluding energy, the trade balance presented a surplus of 13,492 million euro (Table 3) compared with a 14,548 million euro surplus in January-March 2013.
